Technical Specifications

Structural racking has the capacity to handle your storage needs. The types of products that your racking solution will hold and distribute factor into how and what we recommend. Below are some details to consider:

beam capacity

  • Structural beams typically range from 3" to 6" in height.

  • Load capacity per beam can range from 2,200 lbs. to over 11,000 lbs. per level.
(depending on the beam's size and design)

  • For heavy-duty structural racking, the capacity can exceed 11,000 lbs. per beam level, with some systems capable of supporting up to 22,000 lbs. or more per level.*

  • The capacity of each beam is also influenced by the span (distance between upright columns) and the depth (length of the beam).

frame capacity

  • The upright posts of structural racks are typically made of high-strength steel, which enhances load-bearing capacity.

  • Frame heights can range from 6 feet to over 40 feet, and the capacity of a frame will vary based on its configuration and the loads it must support.*

load distribution

  • Evenly distributed loads across the beams will optimize the rack's capacity. If loads are not evenly distributed, the racking system may become unstable or fail to reach its maximum capacity.

  • The type of pallets being stored (e.g., standard-sized or custom-sized) also influences the capacity.

environmental factors

  • The system's capacity can also depend on environmental factors such as temperature, humidity and seismic conditions.

  • If the racking system is installed in a location prone to seismic activity, additional reinforcements may be needed to ensure the system’s stability.
